Legendary Style

The highly anticipated documentary This Is It is finally in theaters everywhere today! I am going to see it tomorrow afternoon and I can't wait.

As we all know Michael Jackson was know for his awesome dance skills, but the one thing that set him apart from all other performers was his signature style. This included the sequined glove, white socks, aviator sunglasses, fedora...and last but not least -- the military jacket.

Below are some of the military style jackets that were once worn by MJ. My favorites are the red and gold one in the front, along with the pastel blue one immediately to the right.

Military inspired clothing has been making its way back onto the fashion scene since 2008 with high fashion designers like Balmain, whose designs have been seen on many celebs. I think it's a 'classic' trend that we'll continue to see over the next few months.

But you don't have to purchase a Balmain jacket to get an MJ-esque look! There are many budget friendly military inspired pieces that can be purchased, and I've featured some below:

Arden B. Military Button Front Jacket - Structured yet feminine. I think it would look great paired with skinny jeans.

Forever 21 Soldierette Button Vest - This would looke nice with a long sleeved crew neck.

Dollhouse Bayard Peep Toe Platform - I love these...but I think it would be too much if worn with a military jacket. I think this would be great for a plain ensemble, so that shoes would be the main focal point.
Blowfish Silla Flannel Flat - A great everyday shoe.
If you haven't seen the trailer for the movie, you can check it out below.

Inspired by Nature...

This is one of the trees in my front yard. Isn't it beautiful?! I absolutely love the colors of Fall leaves. They're so gorgeous and vibrant! The leaves on the tree reminded me of one of my favorite colors to wear during the Fall -- Rust!

I've always thought that if I were to have a wedding between the months of September through November, this would definitely be one of my wedding colors.

Rust is the perfect shade for Fall, as it compliments many different colors. It looks great when paired with dark wash denim, chocolate brown, khaki and even black.

Below are some of my picks for great rust colored pieces that would make a great addition to any wardrobe:

J.Crew Wool Harbor Pea Coat - a classic style in a fabulous color!

J.Crew Merino Ethereal Ruffle V-Neck Sweater

Arden B. Ruffle Front Cardigan

Nine West Madeline Shopper

J.Crew Charlie Ruffled Suede Heel

Mad About Plaid

I've never really been a fan of red plaid clothing, because it always reminds me of the Brawny man! It usually only looks good on lumberjacks or children posing for Holiday pictures.

However, my opinion of red plaid changed after I saw this picture of Khloe Kardashian at the airport.

I love this plaid tunic paired with black leggings, fabulous Louboutin suede booties and a studded purse! Her ensemble is chic, yet casual and comfy without looking too frumpy -- which is perfect for traveling. Nothing is worse than being stuck at the airport in something that is uncomfortable.

On Monday my flight was delayed 7 hours, and I wore a horrible pair of deceptively uncomfortable flats. I was so mad at myself for wearing them, so they will be donated to Goodwill or Salvation Army this weekend!!

Anywho, back to the post...

I noticed that plaid, specifically red/black plaid, is out in full force this Fall/Winter so I'm going to take baby steps towards adding pieces to my wardrobe. I think I'll begin with a scarf or headband and then work my way up from there.

Below are some of my picks for great red plaid pieces!

Forever 21 Cape Sleeve Plaid Coat - It's the perfect price for a trendy item, and will look great with an all black ensemble.

Corey Lynn Calter Andrea Plaid Zipper Front Dress - The sweetheart neckline adds a soft touch.

Arden B. Plaid Ruffle Front Tunic - Pair this tunic with black leggings and boots, and you'll have a fun and feminie weekend look.

Rocket Dog Otto Plaid Pump - a perfect balance between conservative and sassy.
Forever 21 Crinkled Plaid Scarf - This scarf can be used during milder Winter days and in the Spring as well.

Forever 21 Ruffle Plaid Balconette Bra - so cute...along with the matching boyshorts below!

Such A Stud!

I'm totally in love with pumps and boots that feature stud details. I think they add a little sass to an otherwise plain shoe, and when paired with a fabulous leather jacket they can add a little edge to your ensemble!

They're definitely on trend this Fall/Winter, and I think they're here to stay for quite some time!

Below are some of my favorite studded heels...

Nine West Boutique 9 Darcy Pump - so chic!
Back view

Nine West Bossman Pump - the perfect way to a spice up a boring suit.

The look for less:

Giuseppe Zanotti Studded Sandals - $895.
Colin Stuart Tall Gladiator Sandal - $98.
The sandals aren't identical, but close enough!

In other news...

If you're in the Atlanta area and looking for a great restaurant you MUST try ONE.Midtown Kitchen. I went there over the weekend with my bf for dinner and had the best time! The restaurant has a NY/L.A. "trendy" feel to it along with great food and excellent service. I can't wait to go back again!!
