About F.A.C.E.

Now that Thanksgiving has passed, we are officially in the Holiday Season. For many women this is the busiest time of the year, and that means more primping will have to be done, as there will be several parties and functions to attend.

Aside from finding the perfect dress and accessories, the biggest concern that we as women have is figuring out how we’re going to do our makeup.

We all want to look perfect...like we just came from a Vogue photo shoot. I personally believe great skin is the perfect base for flawless looking makeup, so skin care is very important to me.

I know that I often times get wrapped up in the hype surrounding the latest cosmetic wonder potions, and I forget that some of the best beauty remedies can be found in my medicine cabinet or pantry.

So while you’re out shopping for eggnog and other Holiday treats, take a stroll down the vitamin aisle and get these vitamins that can help you uncover your gorgeous skin!

I came up with a fitting acronym to help me remember the vitamins, and it’s F.A.C.E.

F: Fish Oil. The Omega 3 fatty acids in fish oil help to moisturize your skin.
A: Vitamin A helps to repair damage.
C: Vitamin C helps to brighten and even skin.
E: Vitamin E helps to fight the signs of aging, promote healing and reduce the appearance of acne scars.

These vitamins are great for your skin, but they also provide other health benefits. Fish Oil helps to aid in the treatment of heart disease and high cholesterol. Vitamin A helps to promote a healthy surface lining of the eye. As we all know Vitamin C contains anti-oxidants that help our bodies fight off colds, and Vitamin E can be used to help relieve pain associated with arthritis.

I hope you find this information to be of use.

Russian Navy's Cousin

Lately I’ve been really into dark nail colors for the Fall. This is a HUGE deal for me, because I usually opt for neutral nail shades, and the most daring color that I’ve ever tried up until recently was red. However, I’m excited about my new found fondness for dark, vampy shades and I can’t wait to dress my nails in more exciting colors!

For the past week and a half or so I wore OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark on my fingers and toes, and this weekend I decided to try out a new shade that I picked up while shopping at Wal-Mart.

My latest nail polish adventure took me to try out N.Y.C. Cosmetics In A New York Color Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish in West Village.

This is a swatch from the website. This color is listed as 204B West Village.
This color appears almost black when it’s in the shadows, but you can definitely tell that it is a deep shade of blue in direct light.

This is what the color looks like on my nails. I used two coats, along with one layer of clear top coat. This picture was also taken with the flash on.

I think it is a great dupe for OPI’s Russian Navy, and the best part is that it only costs $1.72 (at Wal-Mart) and it's $1.99 when purchased directly from the N.Y.C. wesbsite. Of course this polish doesn’t have the staying power of OPI lacquers, but for the price it’s fine with me!

What are some of your must have dark nail polish shades? I’d like to know, as I’m looking for more shades to try out this Winter.

Giveaway: The Third Degree

Smelling good at all times is a definite must for me, and I believe that this begins with the foundation of wearing deodorant. I have no idea why some people choose to not wear deodorant!! I’m almost certain that if they were to smell what everyone else smells they’d have a definite change of heart and apply an anti-perspirant ASAP.

Last week while shopping for deodorant I noticed that Degree had a new line of deodorants and body mists so I decided to give them a sniff and was pleasantly surprised! The Fine Fragrance Collection was done in partnership with famed fragrance designer Ann Gottlieb, and launched earlier this year. The collection is centered on the theme of ‘affordable luxury’ with the purpose of providing quality fragrances without the hefty price tag.

The collection features three solid deodorants and body mists, each featuring top, middle and base notes like a ‘real’ fragrance does. And because each deodorant has a matching body mist, wearers will be able to layer on their scent -- ensuring longer staying power throughout the day.

Below are the scents:

Classic Romance – My personal favorite! I think it’s the most feminine of the scents.
Described as a sophisticated and classic fragrance with floral notes.
Top notes: Peony, Muguet, Bergamot and Orange.
Middle notes: Muguet, Peony and Rose.

Sexy Intrigue
Described as a warm and seductive fragrance that is sure to stimulate the senses!
Top notes: Jasmine, Rose and Blackberry,
Middle notes: Strawberry and Pink Grapefruit.
Base note: Vanilla.

Delicious Bliss
Described as a light and energetic fragrance with a flirtatious hint of fruitiness.
Top notes: Muguet, Apple, Peach and Raspberry.
Middle notes: Magnolia, Jasmine and Hyacinth.
Base note: Musk.

If you’re looking for a great smelling deodorant or body mist, I suggest you try out this new collection. These deodorants combine long lasting scents with 24-hour odor and wetness protection! It’s the perfect combination!

Classic Romance is such a gorgeous scent that I’m sure many other women love as well…and that’s why I’ve decided to give away a set of the deodorant and body mist!

To enter for a chance to win this set you must follow my blog, and leave a comment about one of your ‘good hygiene musts’. The deadline to enter is Wednesday, November 18, 2009 by 11:59 p.m. EST, and a winner will be announced shortly thereafter. Good Luck!

Give Them The Cold Shoulder!

Now that it's almost the middle of November it's time to start hunting for Holiday Party and New Year's Eve dresses. I have a few Holiday parties to attend this year, and one of them is my bf's company party. Because it's a corporate event I want to maintain a conservative yet youthful look so I plan on looking around for a dress this weekend.

One particular style that's chic, classy and perfect for any festive occasion is the one shoulder. I'd really like to find a dress in this style for my bf's party, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Below are a few one shoulder dresses and blouses that I absolutely love.

Banana Republic Asymmetrical Ruffle Dress. I love the ruffles!

Banana Republic Asymmetrical Ruffle Blouse - I love this blouse paired with a pencil skirt or slacks for an evening out.

The Limited Draped Definition Dress - I love everything about this dress, especially the color!

The Limited One Shoulder Dress - Very festive and the silhouette looks quite flattering.

The Limited Glam One Shoulder Top - This top is perfect for taking you from a day at the office to an happy hour.

What are your thoughts on recycling clothing? Since we're in a recession, is it okay to wear one dress to several holiday parties, as long as you switch up the accessories/shoes/hair/makeup/etc? I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

Cheap Chic: Michael Kors Eagle Boots

Last Friday I did a little shopping and I decided to visit Marshalls to see what they had, and I left with an AMAZING pair of boots!

These are the 'Eagle Boots' by Michael Kors (Kors by Michael Kors) and they are from the Fall 2008 collection. They originally retailed for over $400, but since they're now being sold at Marshalls and T.J. Maxx stores they're A LOT less!!! Definitely hard to pass them up!

I'd been on the hunt for riding boots for the longest time and I'm so glad to finally find a great quality pair in a gorgeous cognac color, aka Vicuna Brown/Luggage on the Michael Kors website. This boot will definitely be worn quite often this Fall/Winter, and even into the Spring. They also had the boots in black at the stores, and with the contrast of the gold hardware it makes a statement!

I love this little buckle detail!

These boots don't hug my calves if I wear them with tights or leggings, but I think I can still get away with wearing them. I know they'll definitely fit around that area if I wear the boots with skinny jeans. I am now on a mission to find the perfect handbag to compliment these boots -- preferably one with gold hardware. I know that it's no longer a rule that you must match your handbag with your shoes, but it just something that I do at times!

I hope you guys are also finding great deals on your Fall/Winter wardrobe pieces :)
